As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I’m licensed to diagnose mental illness and prescribe medicine. That’s similar to a Psychiatrist, but I think you’ll find my approach to be quite different from any Psychiatrist you’ve seen before.
I am unwaveringly committed to alleviating unnecessary suffering and enhancing your resilience and capacity for joy, even amidst life's inevitable challenges. My approach to care emphasizes collaboration, education and empowerment. I help you build a unique toolkit, with both medication and creative alternative practices, to support you on your journey to greater mental, physical and spiritual well being.
I spent seven years working at NYP/Weill-Cornell as a bedside nurse. I worked in inpatient pediatrics, in the recovery room for ambulatory surgery, and as a sexual assault nurse examiner.
During those years in the hospital, I became a skilled educator, translating the “medicalese” of the physicians to a language my patients could understand, helping them navigate the complex medical system, and empowering them to make informed decisions about their care.
I became highly attuned to the physical and emotional state of my patients, observing their bodies for signs of distress, listening deeply to their thoughts and fears, and intuiting the needs they were unable to name.
I became well acquainted with tragedy, illness and death; I became more appreciative of the exquisite beauty and mystery of life.
I seek to provide a safe place for you to talk about things that might feel too taboo, scary, or weird to disclose elsewhere. I encourage radical acceptance and I dispel the falsities of laziness, unworthiness and shame.
You’ll complete a thorough intake questionnaire, detailing your medical, social & psychiatric history, as well as screenings for current psychiatric symptoms.
I’ll review your responses in advance so that I can come to our first meeting prepared to dive into the most important part–the conversation with you.
We’ll take an hour to talk, completing the psychiatric diagnostic evaluation, and clarifying your goals & priorities along the way.
If I believe my expertise aligns with your needs and you feel comfortable with my approach to care, we’ll agree on a plan for follow-up.
Most of my patients see me once a month for follow-up visits. When we’re still getting to know one another, or if we’re making changes to your medication regimen, we may see each other more often. If you’re feeling well and we’re maintaining your treatment, we may space out the visits to once every three months.
or is willing to send in new prescriptions without an appointment to talk things through, then I’m not the provider for you. Believe it or not, I actually want to know you!
While some people do require a lifelong relationship with psychiatry due to the nature and severity of their symptoms, my intention for most patients is that you will eventually be able to disengage from psychiatric care. I hope that the skills, resources and community connections you foster in our time together will enable you to enjoy a sense of well being for many years to come.
Your treatment plan is an ever-evolving blend of my professional recommendations and your unique interests, values and beliefs. I’m connected with a diverse network of local providers, so if there is an element of your treatment plan that is not within my skill set, I will refer you to one of my trusted colleagues.
